What is a PMO?

On the other hand the Project management Institute (PMI) has classified PMOs into;

Directive PMO

  1. The directive PMO is the highest level of the PMO roles. They maintain a strong degree of control over many aspects of the project and they often communicate directly with stakeholders and clients, working intimately with the CIO. 
  2. Directive PMOs usually hire and assign project managers and serve as their guides and supervisors. They are an important part of project planning and manage an organization’s projects throughout its lifecycle in terms of scope, budget, and timeframes.

Controlling PMO

  1. The next level of PMO according to the PMI breakdown is the controlling PMO. They have a good degree of control over managing projects but not as much as the directive PMO.
